Version Control enables developers to lock and check in/out Domino application design elements when working in a team.
Why the Version
Control tool?
Version Control
ensures a disciplined approach to database
element development and modification. It
provides check-in and check-out procedures
for databases, their design elements, Setup Documents and even user documents, ensuring
that these may only be modified by the appropriate
application developer. As this applies to
both design and user documents, the Version
Control tool is broadly positioned in the
application development and management cycle.
Check in - Check out
Checking-in a database, element or document
to version control implies that it is available
to all users who wish to modify it. To make
a modification, the element must be checked-out
by the user. Thus, checking-out implies that
the user that performed the check-out
operation reserves the database, element or
document concerned.
Rollback
Most of the Version
Control functionality is managed in a comprehensive
Version Control dialog. The dialog
need not be accessed by the user when performing
daily version control related operations, but gives the user the option to rollback checked in or checked out items.
Structured development
Simply put, this
development tool provides structure to the
Lotus Notes development environment and Lotus
Notes applications. It simplifies and speeds-up
the development, deployment and maintenance
of Lotus Notes applications. The result is
greater end-user productivity and a greater
return on Lotus Notes investments.
